Where's what I've done: Removed some applications, including Xcode 2. Gained some disk space back but the System Data has not budge at all. I've tried alot of things to reduce the storage on my HD. Left Top Apple Icon -> About This Mac -> Storage. These are my go to’s for Other/System storage, just don’t go delete anything as they may contain important data, however things like Cache and Logs, you can typically get rid of if they get out of line.ġ. I take it otherwise you’ve already also checked in the ~/Library: (These logs are deep within ~/Containers/, so Connection Doctor is an easy way to find them). If large delete everything in that folder, empty the Trash, and make sure to disable the option for Mail Logging in Connection Doctor, to prevent this again. Ive found if Apple Mail is used and Mail logging is enabled, it can continuously generate logs you don’t need. Can you get the size of Containers? And if you also have a folder called Screen Recordings? There are a few others to check out.
While in the ~/Library, (That you are familiar with). Yes that’s a bit much for system data, I don’t think I saw any extra partitions using much data either.

What am I missing? I thought buying a MacBook Pro with 4 TB storage would be more than enough, so why am I out of space after only using up 1.7 TB? Nothing has reduced this purgeable data reading, and FinalCut still won't let me import anything onto my Mac HD. So far I've tried rebooting, deleting local Time Machine snapshots, clearing the system cache, and emptying trash. So why is my purgeable data larger than the visible amount of storage I've used up (only 1.7 TB)? I looked up some articles about purgeable data, and it seems like this is only supposed to account for a small fraction of your total used space. In a FinalCut forum, someone recommended I click Get Info on my Mac HD icon, and sure enough the purgeable data appears to be the problem. I couldn't understand why, since About This Mac shows that there's 2.07 TB available. I discovered the problem when I was trying to import FinalCut Pro media and it gave me the error that there wasn't enough space on my local hard drive. Combined with the regular data, it says I've used up 3.98 TB of my 4 TB hard drive. Why does my Mac HD have over 2 TB of purgeable data when I've only used 1.7 TB of regular data? I'm trying to understand why my Mac HD is showing 2.04 TB of purgeable data. These total 13 GB on this MB pro and would seem to be correct.

Is it /System folder plus /Libray folder. QUESTION: When Storage reports that the System is X size, what folders are used to arrive at this sum? If I know that for sure, I can go in and add them up and come up with an accurate size.

Why does About this Mac show the System software taking up 54.05 GB of data? The /System folder contains 6.76 GB of data. However, even after installing a fresh copy of Mojave today, when I do an About this Mac > Storage > and hover my cursor over the gray section of the bar, it show: System 54.05 GB.Ĭhecking my folders individually,I discovered that: I booted up in Recovery mode, erased the HD, installed a fresh copy of Mojave and migrated my data from a clone of my old MB pro. I aways upgrade to the latest OS on the day it releases or maybe 1 week at the most. Have been trying to upgrade xCode for months now, no success.
